We live in a world where our bodies are constantly receiving toxins -- the foods we eat, the medications we take, things we put on our skin, the air we breathe -- they all contribute toxins to our bodies. These impurities can lead to adverse health effects such as water retention, early onset of disease, premature aging, and increased risk for cancer. They affect how our bodies function and the way we feel.
Toxins are also contributing to the increases in obesity in America. Why? Because part of the body's defense mechanism is to protect itself from toxins by diluting and sequestering toxins with fat. As toxin levels in the body rise, fat levels rise in response.
Cleansing & Purification Benefits
Cleansing has been practiced throughout history by many cultures for physical and spiritual reasons. Today, the reported health benefits of cleansing and purification are numerous. Those who cleanse have reported improvements in:
- energy levels
- mental attitude
- ability to cope with stress situations
Reported benefits include:
- weight loss
- fewer colds
- cessation of menstrual pain, migraines, and joint pain
- resolution of lifelong sinus congestion
- clearing of skin problems and breast cysts
- improved concentration
Others even report an improved sex life since cleansing can contribute to a healthy liver which is essential for a good sex drive (libido).
Given the environment we live in today, cleansing & detoxification of your body should be a regular part of your life. It results in a greater sense of well being and it simply makes sense.
Ways to Cleanse
There are various ways to cleanse. Types of cleanses include:
- Colon cleanse
- Master cleanse
- Liver, kidney, or gallbladder cleanses
- The Mini Beet Protocol
- Ayurvedic cleanse
- Skin cleanse
- Candida Albican cleanse
- Parasite cleanse
- Nutritional cleanse
With all these ways to cleanse, what should one pick? Probably the most popular way of cleansing is colon cleansing. Yet there are things to take in consideration when doing a colon cleanse. Colon cleansing has the potential to be harmful. Most colon cleanses draw fluid from surrounding tissues into the colon. This can produce an imbalance of electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. The change in fluids can lead to dehydration and low blood pressure.
In addition, colon cleansing would do little for removing environmental toxins such as PCBs and DDT because these toxins are stored in fat and can't be eliminated by colon cleansing. This does not mean colon cleansing cannot be beneficial. There are many testimonials to colon cleansing and its benefits. One just needs to exercise some caution, and understand results may be limited.
There are cleansing systems that require you to do some leg work and gather specific food items comprised of certain fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices, and certain liquids like herbal tea. Then once you've gathered all the items, you need to prepare them in a certain way. It is not uncommon to need a juicer to prepare your food. These types of cleanses can be great cleanses if you don't mind spending the time to do these things.
Some things you should keep in mind if you intend to cleanse:
- Before embarking on any cleansing routine, it is recommended that you check with your health professional, especially if you take any medications or have any health problems.
- If you are going to use a product, know what the ingredients are as some herbal supplements can cause health problems such as allergic reactions.
- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
At Forever Fit, we've looked at a number of these cleansing systems. A disadvantage almost all of them share is that during the cleanse, your body is deprived of nutrition that it normally needs. Our bodies need over 90 nutrients in order to function at an optimal level, and a huge problem today is the lack of proper nutrition in our diets. An ideal cleansing system would be one that is effective in helping the body release impurities while providing it with essential nutrients -- i.e. nutritional cleansing.
During some cleansing systems, your body does not receive any protein. If the body does not have the protein it needs, it will use the protein stored in your muscle, which can result in a loss of muscle mass. But lean muscle is what we want to retain. One of the benefits of muscle is that it helps with metabolism. Nutritional cleansing provides needed protein. And, unlike other cleanses, nutritional cleansing helps the body release toxins stored in the fat. As mentioned earlier, one of the body's responses to toxins is to surround them in fat which can result in weight gain. Eliminate the toxins and the fat starts to drop off, leading you to a leaner body and a healthier weight.
That's why at Forever Fit, our preferred cleansing method is a particular system of nutritional cleansing, one that has also received numerous testimonials to its simplicity, exceptional nutrition, and effectiveness. A number of us have tried it and we've seen and felt the results within ourselves and in others. It has been so beneficial, it has become a regular part of our lifestyle of health and wellness.
